Epsilon Philanthropy and Community Service

Our local philanthropy is Angel Kiss Foundation. AKF assists Nevada families that have a child fighting cancer. Our biggest philanthropy of the year is our Christmas Adopt-A-Family program. We take on more and more families each year. Once provided with a wishlist we get all of the items donated and have a small party with each family where we deliver the gifts, decorate and have a great time. This year we are hoping to help as many as ten families. If you are interested in adopting a family please contact us and we will send you program information.

Aside from Angel Kiss Foundation the Epsilon chapter also takes part in multiple community service projects, programs and events. Please check our website frequently for pictures of these events. Here are some of the community service projects that we participate in:

ESL Pen Pal Program- Our fellow soror, Katie Smith developed this program and it has been a huge success since it was started in 2005. Each semester we partner with a local school's ESL program. The semester begins with each soror being matched with 1-2 students. Over the course of the semester we exchange letters getting to know each other. The letters help students from all over the world practice their reading and writing in English. We get the oppertunity to get to know them and share in their learning experience. At the end of the semester we have a pizza party where we meet our pen pals and play games and hang out.

Trick or Treat for Canned Goods-Every Halloween we divide into teams and go trick or treating for canned goods. For 2007 we have included the lovely ladies of Kappa Alpha Theta. All canned food is donated to the Evelyn Mount food collection project and given out to local Reno families in need. In 2006 we collected 400 cans in one hour!

Rush Service Project-Rush is a time to get to know potential new members. A potential lady xi must realize the importance of community service. Lady Xi service doesnt mean cutting a check or adding our names to letterhead, we become part of the project and get involved on the community level because we arent just interested in numbers, we want to see our affect in the community. During each rush period we include atleast one service project. This allows us to see how young women feel about community service, how passionate they are, and where their community interests lie.
